Cahalan Industries, Inc. (dba Cahalan Woodworks and Top Fabricators) began operations in 1985. Leo & Susan Cahalan purchased an exisiting countertop manufacturer that year (Tops, Inc.) that had manufactured plastic laminate countertops for over a decade mainly serving small residential markets around the Birmingham, AL area. Over the first few years of operation, Top Fabricators' markets were refocused and expanded to include store fixtures, casework, and institutional countertops to subcontractors and end users. In 1999, the store fixture and casework segments of the business were split off to form Cahalan Woodworks. Membership in the Architectural Woodwork Institute was established and efforts were focused on General Contractors and end users of quality architectural millwork and casework.
